A group welcoming weather professionals, enthusiasts, and those with an interest in science.
We have our final two meetings of the 2025/26 Oregon AMS season inked and ready to go. We also have a “NEW” meeting location in the mix that we are confident you are going to really enjoy! Here are the details:
April AMS Meeting
What: “Summer Wildfire Forecasting & Responses.” What do both require in order to be effective? Efficient wildfire response readiness requires advance knowledge of upcoming combinations of critical weather and ignition potential. Surges of fire starts from lightning demand rapid commitment of firefighting resources to limit fire spread potential. Wildfire threat to communities and resource loss can be reduced by efficient preplacement of firefighting resources ahead of anticipated lightning outbreaks. This talk will discuss the objective techniques developed by the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center to anticipate significant fire threat from lightning.
Who: John Saltenberger, Recently retired (41 years) Fire Weather Program Manager / Meteorologist, National Interagency Fire Center, Portland
When:Thursday, April 16th @ 7 pm (6 pm social hour). All ages welcome. Park one block north or one block east of McMenamins (in the neighborhoods, for free) if you can not find available metered parking on Broadway.
