A group welcoming weather professionals, enthusiasts, and those with an interest in science.
Who: Mark Nelsen, Fox 12’s Chief Meteorologist, will be speaking at our November meeting, talking about one of the most underrated events in Willamette Valley weather history.
What: Did you know the thickest glazing of freezing rain on record (6″+) in our area occurred in the fall? It was mid-late November 1921. Hundreds were trapped on highways and even trains, and a few all-time snowfall records still stand from this storm. But how did it happen? He’ll unravel the mystery of this event, plus take a close look at the first “Friday the 13th Storm” in Portland; most likely, you’ve never heard of it. He’ll touch on some other big snow/ice events in our area as well, to whet your appetite for the upcoming winter season! (photo credit is Troutdale Historical Society)
