A group welcoming weather professionals, enthusiasts, and those with an interest in science.

It is with sad news and heavy hearts that the Oregon AMS shares some news with you. George Miller, one of our members and a former chapter President, has passed away.
The following comes from Tyree Wilde.
All,
I am saddened to bring news that George Miller, retired MIC at WFO Portland, passed away on Thursday, May 14. George spent 35 plus years in the NWS and retired in 1994 after serving as the MIC/Area Manager at the NWS Portland office from 1982-1994.
In his retirement years, George became an author, researcher and student of historical weather events in the Pacific Northwest. He published many books and articles on weather and climate of the Pacific Northwest and was sought out by many for speaking engagements.
I spoke with his wife, Janice, this morning who asked that I pass on the information about George’s passing. George spent the last 3 days at a local hospital under great care, but his heart was too weak and his kidneys were failing. He passed away in the late afternoon on Thurs, May 14. At this time, I don’t have any details regarding funeral services, but will pass them along as details emerge.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Janice and the rest of their family.
Tyree
Last year, the Oregon AMS awarded George a lifetime membership and we looked forward to more engaging presentations from him. Our chapter is sadden today knowing we’ve lost a friend and mentor.
