Agenda:John Dodge, renown columnist, editorial page writer and retired investigative reporter for The Olympian digs deep into the1962 Columbus Day Storm. The storm killed dozens, injured hundreds, damaged more than 50,000 homes and leveled enough trees to build a million homes. The unrivalled cyclone gave birth to the Asian log export market and the Oregon wine industry. In his book entitled, “A Deadly Wind,” John weaves a compelling story spiced with human drama, Cold War implications, Pacific Northwest history and the science of severe weather. His best-selling book was published by Oregon State University press in October 2018.

The 27th Annual Oregon AMS “Winter Weather
Forecast Conference” is slated for Saturday, October 26th 2019 beginning at a NEW start
time of 9AM due to a special guest speaker which you will not
want to miss. We will still plan to end about 12 noon. We know this is a little
longer meeting this year, but we are confident that you will enjoy our
special guest speaker that we are bringing in from out of state. Yes, that is a
called a “tease” in the TV world. More details to come! Are you
interested in one of our limited forecaster presentation “slots?” Want to
be vendor and reserve a table? If so, please keep an eye out in early
September for our RFP (Request For Presentations) email. You will want to return
those ASAP in September!
