APRIL AMS MEETING

Topic / Title: “USDA – Natural Resources Conservation Service, Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program Overview and 2018 Water Year Current Synopsis in Oregon.”

Guest Speaker: Scott Oviatt, Snow Survey Supervisory Hydrologist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will provide a brief history of the snow survey measurements and intended use, including sampling methodologies, general surface water forecasting concepts and approaches, snow measurement technology, and overview of products.  Additionally, an overview of current snow pack and precipitation conditions (in Oregon and PNW), and stream flow volume forecasts will be provided.

When: Tuesday, April 24th 2018. Social hour 6-7:00pm, with the formal meeting from 7:00-9pm.

Where: McMenamins Restaurant (Lloyd District) – 1504 N.E. Broadway, Portland, Oregon 97232. We have the closed-door banquet room reserved.

Parking: Park one block north of Broadway (in the neighborhood for free) if you can not find available metered parking on Broadway. Meters end at 7pm.

MAY AMS MEETING (OUR FINAL MEETING OF THE SEASON)

A photographic weather / climate tour of Bora Bora and New Zealand, with Oregon AMS Secretary Tyler Mode. We will also announce our newly elected executive council for 2018/19.

AMS ELECTION UPDATE

Oregon AMS executive council nominations were taken at the March AMS meeting. The 2018/19 election ballot is being prepared now by the election / nomination committee (Mark Nelsen, Bobby Corser and Tyler Mode) and will be sent out to all “current” Oregon AMS members by May 1st. The election results will be announced at our final meeting of the season in May. Keep an eye on your inbox!

SUMMER PICNIC RETURNS

After a year off, Mark and Sheila Nelsen have once again agreed to host this year’s Oregon AMS Summer Picnic at their home in Corbett. Mark your calendars for the afternoon of July 14th 2018. More details to come. As an added bonus, Mark will be revealing his new deck!
