Next Meeting: Snowin’ & Blowin’ at Mt. Bachelor

With all the snow that has fallen in the past week or two, this week’s Oregon AMS meeting is sure to be a big hit. Drew Jackson has a great presentation prepared. We are looking forward to seeing you all this Wednesday evening! Here are the latest upcoming Oregon AMS meetings…

Wednesday, February 28th 2018 @ 7pm — Former KPTV Meteorologist / current Director of Sales & Marketing at Mt. Bachelor’s Drew Jackson will present “Snowin’ & Blowin’ at Mt. Bachelor: A day in the life of Oregon’s highest elevation ski area.” Drew has a great presentation planned that won’t want to miss it! This meeting will be held at McMenamins, NE 15th and Broadway in Portland’s Lloyd District. Come hungry!

When: Wednesday, February 28th 2018. Happy hour 6-7pm and formal meeting from 7-9pm.

Where: McMenamins Restaurant (Lloyd District) – 1504 N.E. Broadway, Portland, Oregon 97232. We have the closed-door banquet room reserved.

Parking: Park one block north of Broadway (in the neighborhood for free) if you can not find available metered parking on Broadway. Meters end at 7pm.

 

Upcoming Oregon AMS Meetings

Tuesday, March 20th 2018 @ 7pm — The annual Oregon AMS “Winter Weather Recap” and “2018/19 annual Oregon AMS election nomination” meeting, hosted by KPTV-12 Chief Meteorologist Mark Nelsen. Mark will take a detailed look at the 2017/18 winter that is quickly coming to a close. How did the OMSI winter weather forecasts turn out? If you would like to nominate another current AMS member for a seat on the seven (7) member executive council for 2018/19, you will want to attend this meeting and place your nomination(s). This meeting will once again be held on the “west side” at the Golden Valley Brewery in Beaverton. Save the date on your calendar and come hungry!

*NEW* Tuesday, April 24th 2018 @ 7pm — Presentation Title: “USDA – Natural Resources Conservation Service, Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program Overview and 2018 Water Year Current Synopsis in Oregon.” Scott Oviatt, Snow Survey Supervisory Hydrologist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will provide a brief history of the snow survey measurements and intended use, including sampling methodologies, general surface water forecasting concepts and approaches, snow measurement technology, and overview of products.  Additionally, an overview of current snow pack and precipitation conditions (in Oregon and PNW), and stream flow volume forecasts will be provided. This meeting will be held at McMenamins Restaurant (Lloyd District) – 1504 N.E. Broadway in Portland. Save the date on your calendar and come hungry!
